Congratulations! You survived yet another possible threat to planet Earth. According to astronomers an asteroid nearly missed us today. How narrowly? Well, if you live in the southern hemisphere you should be able to send our lovely site some snapshots of it.
The space rock, called, Asteroid 2011 MD, came within 7,500 miles of Earth. Whew… Thanks to the efficient members of the Lincoln Near Earth Asteroid Research project they noticed it a whopping four days before it was scheduled to appear. On the bright side they are saying if it did hit us it would most likely burn up in the atmosphere.
I can’t think of a better way to start off a whole week than almost being pummeled by an asteroid.
Happy Monday.
